Addy’s – Capitol
Super S/O to Addy’s Sports Bar & Grill (Addy’s Capitol) located at 101 N 10th St, Omaha, NE 68102 for inviting Omaha Fattie out for a visit. Krisy, the manager, invited me out back in June when they were just opening. They wanted to make sure to get some honest feedback to help make any adjustments needed to provide a good experience for patrons. COVID is a ..! Due to 2020 not being a normal year due to the pandemic, my visit was delayed a bit and I didn’t get out until November.
Before we get into the food, can we talk about the space itself? Oh man, this place is CLEAN! I know that it is newer, but still the look of the place is so appealing. Addy’s is located right on the corner of 10th and Dodge and before you even walk in you will notice the huge patio space outside. One of the coolest things that I’ve seen is that they have a rollup garage door that allows their bartenders to easily go from serving customers at the bar inside to serving customers outside at the patio bar. This feature makes it a smooth transition.
The inside allows for plenty of seating and has a ton of TVs for your sports watching pleasure. Under normal circumstances, this place would be packed on any given day. When you first walk in you will see that they have a small section just to the right side of the doors that has a couple of comfy looking couches set up with smaller tables. If my memory serves me right, there are a couple of high tables to the left of those doors. Straight ahead there is a nice sized bar and then plenty of table spaces. As you walk through you will see the wall of TVs to the left and a cool Addy’s sign on top of a state of Nebraska backdrop. They have a pool table and a couple of arcade games at the back of the bar. For people that want to have a gathering away from the general public, Addy’s has a private room for parties and celebrations that can be reserved. I was really impressed by the layout.
The patio was super nice as well. The bar that I mentioned has heaters installed in the ceiling to blow down on patrons when it is cooler/cold outside. The bar itself can easily seat 10 people and the patio is also huge. There are tables setup throughout the patio and then also a couple of sectioned off fire pit areas with nice patio furniture. I’m telling you that this place is super legit; you can tell that they put a lot of thought into the floorplan to make sure that people enjoy their visits. Krisy was giving me some background into the blueprints as we walked through the place.
Let’s talk about food, baby! I ordered a half order (5) of Spicy Garlic Wings, then went outside of my comfort zone and ordered a half order of Salted Caramel BBQ, and finally a Spicy Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. I’ve seen Peanut Butter & Jelly wings on menus before, but I haven’t experimented with them. I’ve been challenging myself to try different things, so the Salted Caramel BBQ was definitely something that was not my usual idea of a wing sauce. My visit took place outside of lunch hours and though there was plenty of open space for me to eat in peace without being concerned with socially distancing, it was a school day and I had to pick my youngest daughter up from school. I didn’t have time to dine in and decided to get it to go.
When traveling with food, how it will hold up is always a concern. There can be a drastic difference in the quality of the food depending on how far of a drive is ahead. The wings were not a concern, but the sandwich and fries would be the concern in this case. I’ll start with the wings. I shared some with my daughter and saved some for my wife to try. I started with the Spicy Garlic which were heavy on the spice, but not so heavy on the garlic. They seemed more peppery and it overpowered the garlic. These were spicy! The wings themselves were not bad at all. I’d give them another shot.
The Salted Caramel BBQ was a hit! Especially, with my daughter who is known to eat like a baby bird. If we have wings, she’ll usually eat 1 maybe 2. She had 2 and asked for another and ate some fries as well. The sweetness of this sauce was a homerun and opened me up to the possibility of giving Peanut Butter & Jelly ones a chance in the future. I’m glad that I gave these a try.
Now, to the main part of the meal, The Spicy Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. The first thing I noticed was that there was no sauce on the breading. I think it was forgotten. That was a bummer because that sets the stage for the sandwich. The drive did affect the sandwich as the bottom bun had started to be get a little soggy. It wasn’t enough to ruin the sandwich by any means. I think it spoke to the juiciness of the sandwich. The sandwich was tender and as mentioned, juicy. I really liked it and the only thing that was missing was the sauce. I would order this again and I believe that the quality of the rest of the food provides enough of a picture for me to assume that it would have been good.
The fries held up fine and we enjoyed those as well. It is hard for me to go to a restaurant and not have fries if they are available. A good side of French Fries compliments a sandwich very well. We of course made light work of those. LOL. If you don’t want fries, they have Tater Tots, Mashed Potatoes, Cottage Cheese, Steamed Veggies or you can substitute Onion Rings, Sweet Potato Waffle Fries, a Side Salad, Cup of Soup or Chili for $1.
My visit overall was great and I am grateful to Krysi for taking the time to show me around the place. This is one of those reviews where there wasn’t anything majorly wrong, but with a few slight changes can easily be upgraded. I absolutely love the look and vibe of the place and they were so nice. Bottom line, go to Addy’s and decide for yourself. I’m confident that you will enjoy your visit. Support these local businesses if you can. I know it’s tough for them starting a new location during Pandemic Season.
I give Addy’s Capitol a solid 3 Fatties. Again, just minor changes that would lead at least to a 4. Have you been? If so, what do you think?
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my thoughts on food. You are amazing!
