Square Donut
Donuts are so good to me. Donuts, what I love to eat! Lala-Lala-La-la-la! That’s what I’m singing as I write this review about Square Donut, located at 15825 W Maple Rd suite 104, Omaha, NE 68116.
If you’re not happy when thinking about donuts, then I don’t know what to tell you. This is another location that is nowhere near where we live in Papillion, so we had to plan our visit. We tried once before, but they were sold out when we got there. Not a huge deal because we just made out way over to Porky Butts to take advantage of our drive. Next time, Gadget. Next time!
Well, what do you know? We planned another visit, but this time made sure to get up early to make it out there by like 7am one day while on our staycation. It was only my wife and I because our lazy kids weren’t waking up on a summer day where there weren’t any big plans. Can’t say that I necessarily blame them. We went inside and saw that it was nice little spot that had a fully stocked case with a good selection of options. Man, we were ready to indulge. A big reason that we wanted to give them a try was because they had vegan donuts. My wife hadn’t had a donut in a LONG time due to her dairy allergy.
She had already staked claim to like 4 donuts and all I could do was think, “Man, we were meant for each other!” Lol. I didn’t really have that thought, however, “that’s my type.” I can appreciate her commitment to telling me off the top that was what was going down. Works for me. You get as many as you want, girl! I went ahead and rounded out the order for a dozen. Then, I had to get a couple of their Cotton Candy donuts, which were the special for the day.
It was a cool morning and we got to sit out on the patio by ourselves. Gotta take advantage of those kid-free outings when we can. Mitzi started to eat while I was getting my photos taken. She was happy with her first donut and gave her approval. That type of thing makes my heart happy. I love seeing her find alternative food options that are good, and not good for being vegan or dairy free. I started with a chocolate donut. Bring on the dairy for me! Oh my, it was so soft! It almost melted away. The flavor was wonderful to my tongue. Square Donut, I’m so glad that we don’t live closer. There would be a problem.
I washed my donut down with an O.J. and we finished our morning date. We got the rest of the donuts home and I soon found that I had made a mistake. You see, the cotton candy is separated until you order the donut. Poor calculation on my part. The moisture from the donuts gets absorbed by the fluffy candy if you don’t eat them soon enough. No big deal. I will say that the donut didn’t taste like cotton candy itself, so I don’t think it was supposed to. I think that it was made to be a good donut with cotton candy colored frosting to accompany the actual cotton candy. Confusion on my part, but I don’t care.
I will happily give Square Donut a try again in the future. It may be a while due to the travel time. I work at 7am so no way I can get those donuts during the work week. That is okay though. I’ll have to plan a trip on another day off during the week or over the weekend.
The staff was pleasant and provided great service. We were comfortable with the prices as well. I don’t remember the total, but it was worth it. It was a great first square meal of the day!
I give Square Donut 5 Fatties. Have you been? If so, what do you think?
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my thoughts on food. You are amazing!
