Papio Pit BBQ
Okay, I kept being told that I needed to try the Papio Pit and the initial time my family tried on a Sunday they were closed. Not a big deal as we live close and it wasn’t out of the way.
The second time I went with my friend Joe on a Friday night. The place was open and a soon as you open the door you could smell the wonderful smoke from the pit! I got the 2 meat combo which I believe to be a good deal for about $14 I think. In this I got ribs, brisket, cornbread and potato salad. The ribs and potato salad were really good, the cornbread was decent and the the brisket was a bit dry. The dryness of the brisket was not enough to make this a bad experience. I could tell by the ribs that this place has real good potential and I’ll gladly try it again.
I’m a Fattie so I would like to see a french frie option, but other than that the selection is good. There were 2 separate sauces available that we saw and each had a kick. One was the spicy and one was regular. I did like each, but wondered would the regular sauce be too spicy for my little one if I brought her in.
I like the feel of the place being a small business and seeing family work together. Our waiter was a kid that was super helpful; he came to check on us a few times to make see if we needed refills. The cups were small so that was a good thing. The owner came out before the end of our meal and we spoke. We didn’t recall knowing each other, but we did go to Papillion together. He was a year senior, but we know some of the same people. They are why I went in, in the first place. Word of mouth is always the best recommendation.
Overall, I gave it a 3. This could easily be swayed to 4 on our next visit as I think they know what they’re doing. Brisket isn’t easy and it could have been an off day. The ribs, the atmosphere and location will bring me back! If I had to point out a not so positive aspect it would be that while the smoke smell was attractive upon entering, I did find that when I left I smelled like smoke. Not a huge deal and if I were grilling it definitely wouldn’t be an issue, but I don’t want to smell like smoke when I visit a restaurant.
I’d recommend giving this place a try! Its a newer small business and they will have hiccups along the way, but you can tell that they care about what they do. That’s big in my book!
See you guys soon,
