I like, Por-ky Butts and I cannot lie! Yo, Porky Butts is located at 15475 Ruggles St. and is like 30 minutes away from my house, but it was worth the drive! I kept hearing about how good the food was and we had tried to order food a couple times in the recent past, however, we missed out because it was closed.
I ordered online and it was a pretty smooth process. You can sign up for rewards and create an account. It is always cool to be rewarded for supporting businesses. Since this was our first time we wanted to make sure to get a variety of different meats to sample and the menu was great for that sort of thing. We looked through it to discover what the best buy would be for us. Eureka! I’m not sure why I just said “Eureka!”, but we found a selection that fit the profile that we wanted.
We decided on a Family Platter because it said that it feeds 2-3. With that we got Burnt Ends, Pit Ham, Fries and Potato Salad. Additionally we opted for the 3 Meat Plate and selected Catfish, Smoked Sausage, and Turkey for our meats. For the sides we decided on Okra and Mac & Cheese. It also came with cornbread. Once I hit enter on the order I had to get going again because it said 15-20 minutes and as mentioned, I am 30 minutes away. Go-Go Gadget turbo boost accelerator! Not really; I try to drive the speed limit. 🙂

Okay, so I get to the spot, right? Sometimes that Google Maps is suspect so I’m not sure that I’m at the right spot, but I was. I just happened to be on the side of the building. Like a lot of places that have adapted during pandemic season, Porky Butts also has a text system where you send a message when you arrive that informs where you are parked and whatnot. I did that and within a few minutes a young man came out with a couple of bags of heavenly goodness. It is a good thing that I truly love my family because if I didn’t that food would not have made it home. The sweet aroma that filled my vehicle was remarkable. I called my wife to keep me occupied as I made the journey home.
“Baby, it smells so good! I’m not strong enough to fight it. I don’t know if I am going to make it.” Her comforting voice on the other end, “Danell, you can do this. I believe in you. Always have; always will!” She was like Samuel L. Jackson in The Negotiator. Whatever it took to get the food home safely.
Okay, scratch the previous paragraph because none of that happened. I don’t know where my mind just went. Well, I did call her to let her know how good the food smelled, but the rest was just my imagination. Running away with me. Any who, I could tell from the quality of the smell that it was a good choice. As always, the excitement mounts as I get closer and closer to home. A willful hope in my mind that the food would hold up in not have a breakdown from the time it took to transport.
I get in the house and we go out on our patio to break open all the containers. It was a great day to have a covered patio. The girls like to eat out there more than I. Anything to get out of the house. lol. I quickly snap some pics per my usual ritual before digging into a good meal. Everything looks so good. The portions are nice and the cornbread is thick. Thick in a good way.
We look over the whole meal and notice something is off. Wait, 2 Potato Salads? I thought I ordered a Mac & Cheese. We’ve been having bad luck with getting our orders correct since we’ve been getting a lot of to-go orders. Slightly saddened I look at the receipt. Nope, it says 2 Potato Salads so I must have made a mistake. No worries. The food that we have looks to be more than sufficient.
We all started to dig in and from the jump it was pretty unanimous that this food was legit. These people know what they are doing. The rib meat was so tender and flavorful. The sauce was just the right amount. Though we had additional it wasn’t needed. I take a couple of fries and eat them and oh what a wonder. They were different. Like no other fries that I’ve had before. Is that a BBQ spice used on them? A little hint of sweet with each bit. Okay, I dig it.
The turkey was juicy and really good. For me to say that about turkey is a huge compliment. I’m not a huge turkey guy. If done the right way, it can be a success and in this case it was. It was better than the ham. Something I don’t think I’ve ever said before. The catfish was a filet that didn’t steal the show, but I’d eat it again. What’s that? The tartar sauce has a different taste to it as well. Possibly dill? If this is made in-house kudos!
The burnt ends were nice too. Big cuts of meat that brought a smile to my face. The sausage was no slouch either. I was surprised that the ham didn’t have a stronger showing. Not that it was bad at all, but I like more of a sweet flavor if possible. The other meats were so good that this one just wasn’t on the same level. Don’t get me wrong, you would not be disappointed if you got any of these meat items.
“You g’on eat your cornbread?” You damn right I’m g’on eat my cornbread. I might eat yours too. You better watch out. If you are struggling with that movie quote it is from Life with Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy. The cornbread was GOOD! It wasn’t too thick, had a good moistness, and the sweetness was on point. Put a little bit of honey on it and it was hitting so hard.
My only thing that I personally wouldn’t eat again would be the potato salad. My wife would disagree with me here because she really liked it. At first, I did too. I took a bite and right away noticed that it had a different flavor component than I was used to that gave it a little zing. I think it was horseradish. Initially, I thought I liked it, but after having more bites it proved to be a little too strong for my tastes. Let the records show that horseradish has not be something that I usually gravitate towards.
I will say that we got all this food and it only cost us $62.38 with a tip. Very affordable and a good variety. This is exactly the type of experience that I was looking for. Though I didn’t necessarily love the potato salad it was refreshing to taste the different flavors that accompanied this meal. My wife and I both were happy with our meals. The kids like it as well and there were leftovers.
Overall, Porky Butts has it going on! This is another place that I’m glad that I don’t live closer to because they would probably take a lot of my money. The hype is real! Go get yourself a plate or two and report back on your thoughts.
I give Porky Butts 4.5 Fatties! Have you been? If so, what do you think?
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my thoughts on food. You are amazing!
