General Update
I have eaten out more in the last 2 months than at any other 2 month span in my life. It gets expensive, but it has been worth it. We have been having good food experiences and been able to do a small part to help restaurants around town. I’ve been working a ton of OT at my full-time gig and that has made it easier to finance our dining out. We tend to eat out Friday, Saturday and Sunday. By my generic calculation I think it comes out to be about 4 hours of my OT for a week. It has been a sacrifice that I have been happy to make.
Now, as they go back to regular pay at my job I’m trying to decide what the outlook will be going forward. We will still eat out because we are fortunate enough to not be struggling during this time. I want to share what we can in a reasonable manner. Plus, being the Omaha Fattie has a small responsibility for sharing these experiences. That is why I’m here; that is why you’re here! I like the relationship that we have going.
My wife and I are notorious for being indecisive when it comes to selecting a spot for dinner so we have come up with a system that helps make things a little easier. We spread our business using a 1:1 alternating plan. What does that mean? It’s simple…well, the concept is, though the decision on where to eat still gives us a problem. Anyways. We will choose one of our regular restaurants to support one night and then alternate to a new place that we’ve never eaten at.
The system helps us continue to support the places that we are loyal to and at the same time lets us try new things to spread our pool of restaurants. We enjoy how things have been going. Because of this new system we have had places like Thai Orchids, The Sojourn Café, Copps Pizza, El Chicano and more. There are so many restaurants out there that have popped up and even more that have been around for years that we still need to give a try.
I will always support local! That is a certainty and my hope is that someone somewhere is reading my reviews and will take a chance on a place that they hadn’t in the past. I know that it is working because people are telling me so. I love hearing people tell me that they gave a place a try based on something that they read from Omaha Fattie or saw posted on one of our social media pages. Thank you all! Your engagement and comments feed me as much as the food itself. It is an amazing thing when you speak and you know that someone is listening. You don’t know how much it means to me!
Thank you guys so much for reading yet another extended thought that spilled out of my brain! Don’t forget to subscribe to the newsletter and share your stories with us.
