J’s Smokehouse
We finally made it to the new location for J’s Smokehouse located at 230 W Lincoln St, Papillion, NE 68046. We had many past experiences with J’s from when they were located up the street from our house and when we would catch them at events. We almost always had to stop by their line to grab a bite of the deliciousness that they were slangin’. They make a Texas Style BBQ that is hard to match.
My wife and I had a night out on our own as our oldest was working or something and our youngest didn’t want to go out. There was not a long wait after placing our order and the staff was really nice. We had conversations with the cashier and our server. J’s offers a cool and relaxed atmosphere inside the American Legion. This site was formerly held by a couple other restaurants that had short-lived existences for various reasons. We are hoping that J’s stays there for a while.
Let’s get to the good stuff! The ribs are always the star for my wife and I when it comes to J’s. The use of freshly cracked pepper is delightful, and the meat is always tender. I could eat them every visit. I had one meat and two sides. One side was a potato salad that was tasty. A first for me was the bits of meat inside the salad. I feel like it was homemade bacon bits, but I could be wrong. Whatever the bits were, they elevated the taste of this side. An order of French Fries was my second side and made it to the table while still fresh and piping hot. They were crisp and I was happy to see them on the menu. 😋
The price was reasonable for today’s economy. A one meat platter with 2 sides and ribs ran for $19. The platter is normally $18, but there is a $1 increase for selecting ribs as the protein. The only downside that I can see for some would be that to purchase adult beverages you have to place your order separately at the Legion’s bar. That could be a little inconvenient, but not a deal breaker by any means.
I give J’s Smokehouse 5 Fatties. Have you been? If so, what do you think?
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my thoughts on food. You are amazing!
